Prestwick Chemical, Inc. has been created in 1999 from the joint effort of Prof. Camille G. Wermuth, PhD, PharmD., co-founder, President and Chief Scientific Officer and Dr Kathleen Clarence Smith, PhD, MD, co-founder and chairman of the Board. Though the Board of Directors has remained stable since inception, management has since been extended, though Prestwick Chemical aims at staying a lean business organization.

In 1999, Prestwick Chemical opened a branch near Strasbourg, then hosted by the Faculty of Pharmacy from the Louis Pasteur University with 3 employees. In 2001, Prestwick Chemical moved to rented facilities with 10 chemistry benches. In 2004, Prestwick Chemical completed the construction of its current facilities, hosting 32 benches with extension to 48 possible.
